Choosing The Right Electrician During COVID-19

Home » electrician tips » Choosing The Right Electrician During COVID-19
Apr, Mon 20th, 2020 Posted in : electrician tips By : CES 0 Comments

COVID-19 has greatly affected almost every part of American life. In Massachusetts, we have been told to cut all non-essential services and for the majority of workers to stay home if possible. During this time, emergency electrical services are still considered essential. However, choosing the right electrician can be very difficult. Even outside of the pandemic, it is vital to pick the right electrician. Un-licensed and unprofessional electricians can cost you a lot if they do not know what they are doing, they can even jeopardize your safety. That is why it is important to consider the following when looking for an electrician.

What Precautions Are Your Electricians Taking

According to the CDC, COVID-19 spreads via contact. For this reason, the state of Massachusetts, as well as many other states, has issued a variety of warnings and recommendations that residents limit interaction as much as possible. When interacting, individuals should practice social distancing, wear a protective face covering, and avoid contact. In that vein, electricians, contractors, and any essential service that visits homes should be taking every precaution possible to protect their own health as well as their family’s, coworkers, and community’s health. Electricians should be taking the following steps:

  • Regularly sanitizing their equipment
  • Wearing protective gear when starting a project
  • Avoiding direct contact with occupants at job sites
  • Handwashing policies

For residents, if you are looking for an essential electrical service during this time, ask your electrician what steps they are taking to ensure they limit the spread of the disease. When your electrician arrives you should maintain social distancing protocols to avoid any risk.

Is Your Electrician Licensed

Many electricians have suspended some or all of their services. This can be an inconvenience for residents and might mean looking for a new electrician in the event of an emergency. But that is not a good reason to go with an unlicensed electrician. It is important that residents and business owners work with licensed and insured electricians otherwise you may cause more problems. Unlicensed electricians can do more harm than good and generally they and up costing more in the long run, as their work will need to be redone.
