Do You Need An Electrical Inspection

If you own a home, business, or are a property manager you have probably considered getting an electrical inspection at some point. Electrical inspections keep properties up to code and ensure that occupants are safe from catastrophes like electrical fires or power outages. Your electrical system can degrade over time. Which is why it is recommended that homeowners and business owners schedule multiple electrical inspections throughout the course of owning a property. Unfortunately, many property owners do not schedule regular inspections and assume that a single inspection when they first buy the property is enough.

When Should You Get An Electrical Inspection

Of course, the most common time to get an electrical inspector is before you buy or sell a property. An inspection will consist of checking breaker panels, fuses, smoke alarms, wiring, outlet damage, and other common signs of electrical problems that need repairs. If your property is more than 25 years old, it is recommended that you have it inspected and regularly maintained. Modern appliances and electronics require that your property has wiring that supports them. If you are consistently seeing flickering lights, experience outages, or your breakers trip consistently when using appliances you should schedule maintenance right away. Otherwise setting up an inspection every few years will suffice.

Preparing Your Property For Storms & Power Surges

Another reason you should have your electrical work checked regularly is to ensure that your property is not the victim of a power surge or cannot handle storm weather. It is better to be prepared for electrical problems than to need to rely on emergency services. That is why having home surge protectors installed for your property as well as having generator installations is a good way to be prepared for such events. Both of these projects can be completed by a licensed and insured electrician. If you have an electrician inspect your home, discuss surge protectors and alternative power solutions with them. You will want to ensure that your property is prepared for any and all electrical failures.
