How to Fix a Flickering Light

Home » electrician tips, News » How to Fix a Flickering Light

2015-03-31_1836Some lights are meant to flicker, like those enchanting winter icicle lights that can transform any home into a Winter Wonderland. However, most lights aren’t meant to flicker and can be downright frustrating to deal with (not to mention, eerie).

More often than not, flickering lights are caused by a loose bulb so all you need to do is simply turn off the light fixture and gently screw the bulb back into the socket. If the bulb still flickers when you turn the light back on, go ahead and replace the bulb. When this doesn’t work, the problem lies elsewhere and can be remedied by the team at Cardoso Electrical Services.

In other instances, the flickering could be due to a faulty switch. How can this be fixed? Easy. Jiggle the switch a bit to see if it induces flickering. The screw terminal on the switch could also have a bad connection which creates the constant flickering. Make sure the plug is securely in the outlet.

Situations where you are using an appliance with high wattage can cause light bulbs to flicker if they are on the same branch circuit. You may also notice the bulb appearing too bright, too dim or burn out too quickly. When dealing with something as serious as voltage fluctuation, you’ll want to hire our licensed and insured electricians.
