Neuromuscular dentistry is a specialized form of dentistry that takes the position and alignment of the temporomandibular joint, and the muscles surrounding it, into account to alleviate and prevent symptoms of TMJ.
TMJ can cause many different dental problems as well as physical pain in the area surrounding the temporomandibular joint. A neuromuscular dentist will make sure every dental procedure he performs keeps your jaw aligned and in its optimal position.
Recognizing that the muscles of the jaw must be in a comfortable, relaxed position to avoid conflicting with the teeth and jaw joint, we will work to ensure this alignment is correct in order to treat Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) dysfunction.
TMJ is characterized by pain that develops when the bite, the muscles, and the temporomandibular joint
(where the skull and jawbone connect) are not in harmony. It's caused when your bite is not in balance and your muscles are strained in their normal resting or biting positions. TMJ makes speaking, chewing, swallowing, and even facial expressions very painful or uncomfortable.
