Electrical Hazards from the Hot Water Heater

Home » News, water heaters » Electrical Hazards from the Hot Water Heater
Jan, Wed 27th, 2016 Posted in : News, water heaters By : CES 0 Comments

Many homeowners neglect their hot water heater manual which increases their likelihood of suffering an injury. Some dangers people face from the water heater include burns from hot water, electric shock hazards, fire and explosions. Considering water heaters are hidden in closets and basements, it can be challenging to remember that maintenance and precautions are necessary.

Every six months your water heater should be flushed and drained to prevent sediment buildup. If the water heater is inactive for two weeks, hydrogen gas can build up and then the flammable gas will need to be removed very carefully from the hot water pipes. In fact, many people do not realize that electric hot water heaters should be grounded with the correct gauge of copper wire.

Because hot water heaters consist of electrical heating components that are immersed in water, these can deteriorate quickly and short out electrically to the water heater’s casing. When this occurs, you may receive a fatal shock or significant injury if you touch the connecting pipes.
