What Is the Purpose of a Circuit Breaker?

A circuit breaker is one of the most important safety devices in any home or business. It is designed to prevent damage done by excess electricity. A circuit breaker keeps your home safe by automatically interrupt the flow of a faulted current and cut the electricity to prevent any damage. You can control all the electricity in your home from this one box, typically located in your basement.

How Does It Work?

Your circuit breaker will detect any electrical problems in your circuits with an electromagnetic strip that is inside each breaker in your system. These strips will detect dangerous currents and automatically switch off the power to disconnect the circuit from its access to electricity. By cutting off the electricity within that circuit completely, any possible damage is averted.

How Do I Fix a Problem in My Circuit Breaker?

A great benefit of circuit breakers in addition to its ability to keep your home safe from an electrical disaster, it is relatively easy to fix many issues. To restore power after your circuit breaker has cut it off, simply flip the switch off, and then back on again. If it is a simple problem, this will resolve your issue and restore your power. If this does not restore your power, you will need professional help.
