Investing in an Attic Fan

Home » News » Investing in an Attic Fan
Aug, Tue 4th, 2015 Posted in : News By : CES 0 Comments

Most homeowners don’t realize the many benefits of an attic fan. While homes generally rely on the natural airflow through soffit and gable vents, it’s the attic fan that pulls warm air from the top of your house and draws cooler air from outside through the vents.

Attic fans have an easy installation process and are simple to maintain. They can be installed either through the roof or inside of the walls.

Let’s explore the benefits of attic fans.

1. Reduce Temperatures in the Home

Since attic fans pull warm air through the top of the home and push it outside of the top floor, temperatures lower in the living area. The greatest benefit is that the attic fan reduces the time you need to run your air conditioning which reduces your energy bill.

2. The Life of Your Roof is Extended

During the hot summer months, warm air builds up on the roof (30-50 degrees warmer than the ambient temperature) and creates wear & tear. This leads to roof shingles becoming brittle and more likely to crack. When the attic fans draw the heat out of the home, the shingles are then cooled and the life of the roof is extended.

3. Winter isn’t so Tough

During the brutal winters in New England, moist air builds in the home and rises to the top floor. When it meets the cold air in the attic, it condenses. This can cause rotting or molding woodwork along with ice build up that expands and contracts, in turn, cracking the soffit or roofing.

Year-round, homeowners witness many benefits with attic fans and save a bundle on energy costs. At Cardoso Electrical, we can evaluate the best positioning, connect it to the electricity and ensure that a proper seal is created.
