7 Spring Cleaning Hacks
It’s officially spring cleaning season! We know that deep cleaning and organizing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, that’s why we’re sharing our best spring cleaning hacks. Whether you’re cleaning out just one room in your home, undertaking a renovation project, or updating old appliances, spring is the best time to get your home in shape.
Don’t know where to start? Follow these hacks to refresh your space this spring:
1. Stock Up on Supplies & Turn on Your Favorite Tunes
The first, and most vital, step to spring cleaning is to prepare well. Stock up on all of the supplies you will need to get your space spotless – dust rags, plastic gloves, cleaning products, a vacuum, and storage bins (just to name a few). Keep in mind you’ll need different supplies for different areas of your home, so consider the countertop material, flooring, and surfaces you’ll be cleaning. Once you have your supplies rounded up, curate the perfect spring cleaning playlist, turn it on and get to work. The background noise will make the process less painful.
2. Work One Room at a Time
Breaking down your spring cleaning room by room will make the tedious project more manageable. Once you start cleaning one area, don’t move to the next one before it is completely clean from top to bottom. This includes cleaning all of the surfaces, getting rid of any items you no longer need or use, and organizing the items you want to keep.
This will also make taking breaks easier. Depending on the amount of cleaning that needs to be done, you might not get to every area of your home in just one day. If this is the case, you’ll be able to tell where you left off.
3. Clean the Trickiest Spaces First
Each area of your home will pose its own set of challenges – ceiling fans, microwaves, dishwashers, and washing machines. All of these items, plus many more, are difficult to clean. When faced with these challenges, it’s smart to clean them first to get them out of the way.
4. Throw Things Away
Clutter has a way of making itself present in every room of your house. To help reduce the amount of unnecessary buildup, go through all of your belongings and throw away anything and everything you no longer need, use, or have a home for. Be ruthless throughout the process.
Some items to get rid of:
- Makeup and beauty products you never use
- Clothes and shoes that no longer fit or aren’t worn
- Toys that haven’t been played with in years
- Small appliances (i.e. blenders, toasters, etc.) that aren’t used
5. Utilize Storage Space
After you go through all of your items and clean your space, there will be things that you want to keep. In order to avoid clutter building up in the future, utilize storage solutions will give your belongings a home and keep things organized.
6. Know What You Need
Deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. Be honest with yourself and the item in question. When was the last time it was used? If it hasn’t been used in the last 6-12 months (unless it’s a seasonal item), get rid of it.
