Tips for Staying Junk Free
Cleaning and organizing your home takes a lot of time and after spending hours and days going through every room donating, recycling, and throwing away all of the junk you no longer use, the last thing you want to do is have to do it all over again six months later. With busy schedules, sometimes it can be difficult to stay on top of the junk that comes into your home. By cultivating a few habits, you’ll be able to keep your home clean and organized, no matter how busy you are.
1. Recycle loose paper
Set aside a time to go through any loose paper you have laying around your home. Find a home for and organize any important papers that you’ll need to reference in the future and reycle any paper you no longer need. Once you’ve gone through the papers you already have, set aside time at the end of each week to recycle any paper you’ve accumulated over the last couple of days and organize the important papers. This will keep the piles of loose paper in your home organized, free up extra counter space, and will avoid a build up of junk.
2. Breakdown boxes right away
Boxes take up a lot of space and the more you save to use in the future, the less you seem to need. Once you’ve emptied a box from the grocery store, a new electronic, or a package, be sure to break down the box right away and immediately put it in the recycling bin to avoid a build up. If the holiday’s are right around the corner or you have a move coming up, keep a few boxes here and there to eliminate the extra cost of purchasing new boxes.
3. Donate old clothes
There are various charities that are in constant need of gently used clothing, especially during the winter months. Instead of letting old clothing sit in your closet on used, go through and donate the items you no longer use every 3-6 months. You’ll be freeing up extra space in your closet while be helping someone in need.
4. Keep your space clean
When you keep surfaces in your home clean and free of dust, you’ll be motivated to keep them clean and will be less inclined to leave things sitting around where they don’t belong. If you don’t have a lot of time to clean your space, do it little by little. Each day find a home for 3-5 items and before you know it, you’re surfaces will be free of clutter.
