How to Keep Your Home Clutter Free
Do you ever feel like no matter how much time you spend cleaning & picking up, you just can’t keep up with the amount of clutter in your home? Imagine a life clutter free, with all of your counters and floor space actually visible. Once you decide this is the lifestyle you want, you will realize it is not as hard to achieve as you think. Here are some tips for keeping your home clutter free:
Pick A Spot for Everything
“I’ll find a spot for it later,” is an excuse you will never make again when everything you own has a place where it belongs. When deciding on where an item belongs, think logically about where you use it most & where there is space for it. If you can’t find a spot for something, it might be time to think about whether or not you really need the item.
Create New Habits
Once everything has a spot, you need to put it back there when you are done using it – Every single time. Decide that tossing your jacket wherever you take it off is simply no longer an option. Now, it goes back on the hook as soon as you take it off! Seeing how much better your home looks when you consciously put thing away will motivate you to keep doing it, and before you know it, putting things away will be a habit you don’t even have to think about doing.
Set Small Goals
Dedicating a full weekend to cleaning out your entire home is not realistic with most schedules. Even if you do have the time, cleaning out your whole home in one go can be an exhausting and overwhelming approach! Savor the small victories if you want to be consistently junk free. Declutter one room or even one closet at a time, and schedule when you want each attainable goal achieved.
Remove the Excess
When you’re looking to assign each belonging to a place, you will realize that many things you own might not have a place where they belong in your home. If you are not using it and have little attachment to an item, it is likely either junk or could be better used by someone else! This phase of the cleaning out process is where people most often decide to either donate or hire a junk removal service.
Go the Extra (Style) Mile
Implementing a new organization system into your home can give you an opportunity to spruce up your style! Picture yourself putting dirty clothes into a new laundry bin that matches your bathroom decor, or keeping your cords and electronics in a set of matching baskets. Getting yourself the right tools with the right style will even further motivate you to stick to your goals and keep your home neat.
